St Cenydd School pupils performed a short play about rogue traders at the recent Aber Valley Cheese and Crime events.

A community safety event for people aged over 50 is to be held on Wednesday April 21 at Bedwas and Trethomas Community Hall, from 4pm until 6pm.

The ‘Cheese and Crime’ event follows two that were recently held in the Aber Valley.

More than 120 people turned up to the two events held at the beginning of March.

A game of bingo, complete with safety messages, followed a play by St Cenydd Comprehensive pupils and light refreshments.

Councillor Lyn Ackerman, Caerphilly’s cabinet member for the environment said: “I was very impressed by the amount of important safety advice that was available at these Cheese and Crime events.

“The play by pupils from St Cenydd School was also excellent, and I hope the information gained from this will help give our residents the confidence to say no to doorstep callers should they find themselves in a similar situation.”

PC Liz Street, Aber Valley ward officer, said: “We were really pleased to see so many people attending the local events.

“I hope that the residents who came along enjoyed the events and have taken away some important safety information to help reduce the likelihood of them becoming a victim of doorstep crime.”
