Nightmare neighbour banned from Graig-Y-Rhacca

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Monday August 17th, 2009.

A nuisance neighbour has been evicted from her home and banned from a housing estate because of her behaviour.

Caerphilly County Borough Council worked with Gwent Police to get the eviction order to rid Graig-Y-Rhacca community of the nightmare neighbour.

The woman tenant was thrown out of her home in Longfellow Gardens, in Graig-Y-Rhacca by a county court which also banned her from entering the estate between 7pm and 8am.

The council’s tenancy enforcement manager Rachel Thornett said: “Not long after the tenant moved into the property, complaints were received from local residents regarding noise nuisance emanating from the property.

“These complaints ranged from noise and disturbance from fighting and swearing, through to loud music being played into the night and threatening behaviour.

“Despite several joint interventions between Gwent Police and Tenancy Enforcement, it was difficult to initially take any direct action against the tenant as many complainants simply felt too fearful of being identified for fear of reprisals should they make a formal statement against the tenant.”

She added: “We will not allow a tiny minority of people to adversely affect the lives of the majority, and I hope that our actions in this case will act as a warning and a deterrent to others that their behaviour will not be tolerated.”
