Cefn Fforest horse Dream Alliance 40-1 for Grand National

Welsh Grand National winner Dream Alliance is 40-1 to take glory at Aintree on Saturday in the Grand National.

If the horse is first past the post it will cap an already amazing story of a fightback from horror injury.

Born on a disused allotment next to Blackwood rugby club and owned by a group of 22 friends from Cefn Fforest, the horse romped home to win the 60th Welsh Grand National in December last year.

Owned by members of the village’s Top Club working men’s club the horse was a 20-1 outsider for the race. The win was a remarkable comeback for the horse after severing a tendon in his front leg in the 2008 Grand National.

Since the Welsh Grand National win last year, the nine-year-old horse has been the centre of attention.

There have been reports that Hollywood wants to bring the horse’s story to the silverscreen.

Syndicate manager Howard Davies told the BBC website: “He will turn up on Saturday and thrive on the attention.

“The hype was a concern. As after coming second to Denman in the Hennessey, he came to the 2007 Welsh National as favourite and pulled up, so the low after such a build-up hurt.

“Dream enjoyed a pretty low-key build-up before the Welsh but after his victory, with his incredible story, he was racing’s headline news.”
