Caerphilly County Borough Council has launched a new initiative to encourage people to take pride in the state of their streets.
Aptly named Caerphilly StreetPride, the scheme had its official launch with a day of sprucing up the streets of Crosskeys.
Work included a river and canal clean up, chewing gum removal and street washing.
Teams also worked to remove unnecessary road signs, make road repairs and paint street furniture such as railings and benches.
Council workers were also joined in their efforts by local volunteers and some young offenders on community service.
Children from Waunfawr Primary School also got involved by taking part in a supervised litter pick in the grounds of Waunfawr Park.
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Community Safety Wardens also carried out high visibility patrols in the area.
Councillor Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for the environment said: “I am delighted that so many people came along to support the official launch of Caerphilly StreetPride. We want people to be proud of where they live and to work with us to keep our streets and neighbourhoods clean and tidy.
“Each of the issues within the remit of Caerphilly StreetPride are already dealt with by the council and its partners on a daily basis, however together as one ‘Caerphilly StreetPride’ team, there is an opportunity for us to enhance what is already being achieved, and provide an even better service to residents and tackle the issues that matter most to them.”
