Domestic abuse charity Caerphilly Women’s Aid has merged with homelessness charity Llamau.
Lindsay Markey, chair of Caerphilly Women’s Aid, said: “This merger is great news for Caerphilly Women’s Aid and for women and their families experiencing domestic abuse.
“We will be able to continue to deliver high quality, professionally-led services to women and their children for whom Caerphilly Women’s Aid is a lifeline.
“Caerphilly Women’s Aid which will be a part of Llamau’s Women’s Services, will continue to lead in the provision of support to the women and children in Caerphilly.
“We will continue to nurture our existing partnerships, ensuring that we don’t duplicate those services already being provided by other organisations and that we complement the activities of our partners in the local authority and housing associations.”
The merger is a result of an approach from Caerphilly Women’s Aid, which employs 20 staff, to Llamau.
Kim Griffiths, director of Caerphilly Women’s Aid said: “We are a strong cultural fit with Llamau and the merging of the two organizations will allow the expertise of Caerphilly Women’s Aid in supporting women and their families suffering domestic abuse to complement Llamau’s specialism is engaging with women with high support needs who have a history of non-engagement.
“Merging the two organizations will allow the Caerphilly Borough to have a 24 hour refuge within the year, something so desperately needed.”
There will be no job losses as a result of the merger but Caerphilly Women’s Aid will lose its name.
