Bomb scare in Caerphilly town centre

Cardiff Road in Caerphilly town centre was shut down for 20 minutes earlier today after a bomb scare.

Police cordoned off the road after reports that a vehicle was making a suspicious noise near the Kings Arms pub.

However it turned out that the vehicle had simply broken down.

A spokesman for Gwent Police said: “We were responding to a call from a concerned member of the public who had suspicions about a noise coming from a vehicle on Cardiff Road, Caerphilly.

“We cordoned the street off for about 20 minutes whilst officers examined the vehicle and contacted the owner who confirmed the vehicle had broken down.

“We are satisfied that there is no cause for concern and that the vehicle had some kind of mechanical fault.”

Police said they received the report at 12.25pm.
