Pub landlords have been told to turn the volume down by Caerphilly County Borough Council.
The local authority has said that between March last year and March this year it dealt with 249 noise complaints about commercial premises.
Student Environmental Health Officers from the council have been working with license holders to help keep the noise down.
The council has also produced a handbook, which will be given to every licensed premises in the county borough, explaining how they must keep noise levels to within legal limits.
Council staff have also visited Ystrad Mynach College to educate students studying for an NVQ Level 2 in the licensing trade, who are potentially future licensees, on noise-related nuisance.
Councillor Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for the environment, said: “Noise nuisance can seriously affect the quality of life of residents, and so I am pleased that our team of officers are working alongside license holders to advise them of their legal responsibilities regarding noise.
“The vast majority of our license holders do act very responsibly and within the law, however I hope that these visits and the information handbook will prove useful to all licensees in Caerphilly county borough in dealing with noise nuisance.
“We will not allow a very small minority of people to negatively affect the quality of life of the majority, by thinking that it is acceptable to create excessive noise in our communities.”
