The deputy leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council has said the local authority is in a strong position to weather the current financial storm.
The declaration follows a report to the council’s cabinet stating that despite huge financial pressures, the council has managed to stay within budget so far this financial year.
Councillor Colin Mann, who is also the cabinet member for finance, resources and sustainability, said: “Our careful budget planning over the last few years has ensured the council is in a stronger position to face the inevitable financial difficulties ahead.
“We are better placed to tackle these challenges and it is important to note that the actual out-turn position is largely in line with previous forecasts, so it is clear that our ongoing financial management is proving to be effective.”
Cllr Mann also praised managers across the authority for delivering key services within budgets and is confident it can continue.
He said: “We cannot afford to be complacent as I’m sure the financial situation will get much worse before it gets better. We will need to make some tough decisions about the way we continue to deliver services with very limited resources.
“Our priority is to ensure that, as far as possible, residents receive the quality services that they have come to expect with the least amount of disruption.”
