The Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough has officially launched his charity appeal.

Councillor James Fussell recently held the launch event at Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Penallta House offices in Ystrad Mynach.

Cllr Fussell has selected two charity appeals to benefit during his year in office – Ty Hafan, the family hospice and Golden Grove, a charity which aims to purchase and restore a building for use as the first convalescent home for injured servicemen and women.

On the launch night £3,000 was pledged thanks to a number of fundraising events that have taken place over the last few weeks including a charity bike ride down the length of Wales by council staff.

Cllr Fussell said: “I was overwhelmed with the level of support that was evident at the launch event and would like to thank everyone for their kind donations.

“The two charities are very worthy causes and the money raised will be put to good use benefiting many people from our communities. I look forward to organising more fundraising events and activities over the next 12 months and hope this level of support continues.”

  • If anyone would like to donate money for this year’s appeal they can call Joy Thomas, the Mayor’s Assistant on 01443 864360.
