An elderly woman had a “significant” sum of cash stolen after two bogus water board officials called at her home.

Police are appealing for information about the distraction burglary that happened on Wednesday at 2.45pm.

Two men called at an address in Mill Road, Caerphilly, purporting to need to check a burst water pipe. They entered the address, distracted the elderly woman and stole the money.

The men are described as white, approximately 20-years-old, of slight build and one is described as having a local accent.

If anyone has information about the incident or saw anything suspicious in the area around the time, they are asked to call Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
