Gwent Police recently held a crackdown day against illegal parking – with the help of 22 new student police officers.
Officers targeted areas right across the county borough, which were identified as suffering problems with motorists ignoring parking restrictions, including local town centres.
Illegal parking is currently a PACT priority in a number of wards across the area, including Llanbradach, Bargoed, Pontlottyn, Crumlin and Nelson.
On the day, 21 Non-Endorsable Fixed Penalty Notices of £30 fines were issued for a variety of parking offences, such as parking on double yellow lines, parking in a disabled bay with no disabled badge displayed and parking in loading bays.
One Non-Endorsable £60 fine was issued to a motorist for not wearing a seatbelt, while another got three points on his licence and a £60 fine for driving while using a mobile phone.
Valerie Childs , Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant for Bargoed, said: “It is clear that illegal parking is an issue that concerns residents right across Caerphilly as we can see from the PACT priorities.
“On the day of the operation, officers held high visibility patrols throughout the county borough to target illegal parking, reassure residents and gather intelligence.
“We hope that motorists will realise the problems that illegal parking can cause to other road users and pedestrians and we will continue to take action against those who ignore parking restrictions.”
PC Andrew James, said: “This was a great opportunity for our student police officers to work with the Neighbourhood Policing Teams to target issues that residents have told us are areas of concern for them. The student police officers conducted foot patrols with neighbourhood officers and enjoyed speaking to and working with local residents to target illegal parking.”
well wot can u say i`v got yellow lines out side my house in caerphilly and there only parking for 12 cars on the one side wot can i do in the day when im home from work?
Well the police should take this up with the local Cllr's because Cllr Allen Williams was parked on double yellow lines today in the center of Blackwood holding up the traffic and i was one that was in a long line waiting to pass his car as he was running across the road away from his car…. Im sure if the police chose to check their camera's in Blackwood they will see it for them selves. He does it all the time and its not the first time i have been held up by this so called Cllr holding up traffic so he can do his shopping in town !!
I wounder if Cllr Allen Williams will be getting a fine for ILLEGAL PARKING !!!!!
