UPDATED: August 19th

Gwent Police has confirmed it is investigating a death in the Penyrheol area of Caerphilly.

At approximately 7.45am this morning, Wednesday August 18, Gwent Police received a report that the body of a 31-year-old man had been discovered in a van in the carpark of the Bowls Inn on Bowls Terrace, Penyrheol.

A police spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of death which is being treated as unexplained at this time.”

Former landlord of the Bowls Inn, Philip Hughes, told WalesOnline: “What I was told is that he had been drinking last night with mates and had drunk too much to go home.

“He climbed into a mate’s van and fell asleep and never woke up.

“One of the boys was asked to wake him up this morning but they found him dead.”

It is believed the man is from Abertridwr, although police have yet to name him.
