Pupils across Caerphilly County Borough have today been celebrating their excellent GCSE results.
61% of pupils who sat the exams this year got five GCSE passes at A* to C grade, or vocational equivalent, up from 54% in 2009.
The overall pass rate of 97.9% (grades A* to G) is in line with last year’s performance.
The percentage of grades awarded at A* to C increased to 61.1%, up from 60.8% in 2009 and is the best performance to date.
Councillor Phil Bevan, the cabinet member for education, said: “Our young people and their teachers deserve to be congratulated on their performance. The results are due to the hard work and abilities of our students and the commitment and dedication of the teachers of Caerphilly County Borough.”
Sandra Aspinall , the council’s Director of Education and Leisure, said: “This year’s results reflect both the dedication and abilities of our young people, and the commitment of teachers within our schools.”
