Supermarket firm Tesco has been fined almost £10,000 by magistrates for breaching health and safety laws.

Abertillery Magistrates’ Court fined the company a total of £9,600 on August 6.

Caerphilly County Borough Council brought the successful prosecution after a scissor lift collapsed as it was in use at its store in Ystrad Mynach in March last year.

The company admitted three breaches of health and safety laws.

Councillor Lyn Ackerman, the council’s cabinet member for the environment, said: “We take all dangerous occurrence incidents very seriously and investigate them thoroughly.

“I am pleased that the court has reflected this in the fine imposed.”
