Blackwood Miners’ Institute has been fitted with new equipment so people with hearing problems can hear shows more clearly.

An infrared hearing loop system has been installed in the institute’s main auditorium which helps deaf people who use a hearing aid as it cuts out any background noise.

Simon Dixon, Disability Discrimination Act Officer for Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “The installation of this specialist equipment is just one of the many ways with which the council is providing increased access to goods, services and facilities under the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.”

The new infrared system replaces the faulty induction loop system that was at the institute.

Infrared systems are higher quality and less likely to have problems with interference.
