A Pontllanfraith printing firm has won a manufacturing award for the quality of its work.

Pensord, which employs more than 140 people, was presented with Wales Quality Award for Manufacturing at a ceremony in Cardiff City Hall.

Darren Coxton, managing director of the firm, said: “This is a major endorsement for Pensord and the quality which is inherent throughout our business.

“Huge thanks must go in particular to three members of our management team, Louise Williams, Caryll Maggs and Gareth Williams who put together the submission.

“We did not anticipate winning the award after being advised that no first time entrant has ever won it its 17 year history, so it is especially pleasing to be successful over manufacturing companies from across Wales.”

Islwyn MP Chris Evans has congratulated the company on its award win.

Mr Evans, who took a tour of the firm’s operation last year, said: “It is fantastic that a local company has been recognised as the Welsh manufacturer of the year.

“The manufacturing industry is extremely important for the economy here in Islwyn and helps provide both jobs and apprenticeships

“This particular award praises the strategy and leadership of the company and I would like to pay tribute to all the staff that made it possible.

“Pensord is a company we in Islwyn can be rightly proud of.”
