Traffic warden Peter Hollifield has been ordered to pay back £7,336 of fraudulently claimed benefit.

A Caerphilly traffic warden has been ordered to pay back £7,336 of disability benefit he claimed despite walking miles each day during his work.

Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court was told yesterday that 57-year-old traffic warden Peter Hollifield, of Caerphilly, initially made a correct claim for disability benefit in 2005.

By May 2006 he returned to work but failed to tell the authorities and so was still claiming the higher rate of Disability Living Allowance.

Hollifield, who originally claimed he could walk only ten yards in two minutes, admitted the fraud and was ordered to 120 hours community service and to pay back the £7,336 he claimed.

His defence solicitor said the claim by Hollifield was an “oversight”.

The Department for Work and Pensions started investigating Hollifield after an anonymous tip off and secretly video taped him while he was working and claiming the benefit.
