Caerphilly Council’s new cabinet agrees to spend £400,000 on community repairs

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:00, Thursday May 31st, 2012.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s new Labour cabinet has agreed to spend £400,000 on community projects including landscaping, repairing street furniture and other maintenance work.

Cllr David Poole, the new cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “This allocation of funding reflects the ambitions of the council to keep the county borough clean and attractive and to support local communities in their efforts to maintain and enhance their local area. The works will help make a big difference and the resulting improvements far outweigh the actual money spent.”

The funding will come from the Welsh Government Deprivation Grant, and will be used on many projects to improve the look and feel of the streets throughout the borough.

£100,000 of the allocated funding will be used by a special ‘Community Response Team’ to attend to items that are not normally picked up in other budgets, for example the replacement of vandalised street furniture.

Funds will also be assigned to Community Partnership projects, and the maintenance of community initiated schemes.

Funding has also been given to support action to resolve on-going problems encountered in rural areas across the borough – so called ‘Landscape Crimes’.

“All these projects will help us create an attractive, well-kept county borough and enhance a sense of community pride”, added Cllr Poole.
