New school to be built in Penyrheol

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:00, Tuesday September 29th, 2009.

Cwm Ifor Primary School in Penyrheol will be torn down and replaced with a new £5m state-of-the-art school – Caerphilly County Borough Council has announced.

The project will be funded through £4.04m of Welsh Assembly Government money with the council footing the rest.

Councillor Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education, said: “This is excellent news for the school and we were delighted to give the scheme the green light. We are committed to ensuring our children enjoy the best standards of educational facilities possible and we have delivered an ambitious programme of improvement works and new school builds over recent years to help us meet this goal.”

The council has also announced that Hendre Infants School in Caerphilly will get a new school hall and upgrades to toilet and kitchen facilities.

Nearby Hendre Junior School will also have £100,000 spent on improvements.

Cllr Bevan added: “This investment clearly demonstrates our commitment to improving standards and we now look forward to seeing these exciting schemes get underway.”
