A young artist, inspired by the objects on sale at charity shops, has unveiled her latest work – at a charity shop.
Sarah Burge, a second year student at the University of South Wales, scoured charity shops in the area for objects to commit to canvas. The 21-year-old, from Llanbradach, said the 6ft artwork took just over a week to create using water colours and pencil.
She said: “I was inspired by a painting called ‘The Poulterer’s Shop’ by Frans Snyders. It is a picture of a woman looking through a shop’s produce. I wanted to do something similar with the items on sale at charity shops.”
Sarah’s work has been on display at the Age Cymru shop in Cardiff Road, Caerphilly town.
Manager Rhodri Welsh said: “Sarah thought it appropriate to display her work in the environment that first inspired her. I thought this was a great idea which will promote the creativity of our local talent as well as inspiring our regular shoppers.”
