Plaid Assembly Member welcomes funding for Ystrad Mynach station improvement

News | Gareth Hill | Published: 09:00, Thursday March 27th, 2014.

Plaid Cymru AM Lindsay Whittle has welcomed a £3.6m improvement package at Ystrad Mynach train station.

The South Wales East AM and Caerphilly councillor said that the work, due to start during this month and be completed in the autumn, would benefit travellers and lead to more people using the train.

He said: “This sort of work, which makes stations a more welcoming place, will, I believe, lead to increasing passengers numbers.

“Hopefully, many more travellers will catch the train into Cardiff rather than battle with traffic congestion on the roads into the capital.”

He added that he was delighted to hear from Network Rail about its plans for a new ticket office, passenger waiting facilities on both platforms and a general improvement in the environment of the Rhymney Valley station.

There are also plans for a new footbridge and two lifts to help passengers cross more easily between platforms.

Are there any plans for increased parking? Completely insufficient at the moment.
