Elderly Caerphilly man conned out of £5,000 by rogue trader

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:06, Thursday April 3rd, 2014.

An elderly man was conned out of £5,000 by a rogue trader.

The bogus caller visited the elderly gentleman’s home in Caer Fferm, Glenfields, Caerphilly, on March 14 and claimed the roof needed repairing.

The resident gave the man a cheque for £5,000 to buy materials and do the job.

The cheque was banked but the bogus caller never returned to carry the work out.

Anyone with information about the incident should call Gwent Police on 101 and quote Log 209 02/04/14.

Can the banks not trace this scum-bag?

The banks can. The police can find out. The trouble is that the culprit lives in a community where each covers the others back and where the police are often scared to go in unless in huge numbers. Think on it and you'll guess the type of place to which I refer and, if you had a police uniform on, would you go in alone?
