Three senior council bosses have appeared in court this morning on charges of misconduct in a public office.

Anthony O’Sullivan, aged 54 of Merthyr Tydfil and Nigel Barnett, aged 51, of Aberbargoed, the chief executive and deputy chief executive of Caerphilly County Borough Council, have been charged with misconduct in a public office.

The council’s head of legal Daniel Perkins, aged 48, of Brynmawr, Gwent, also appeared before Bristol Magistrates on the same charge.

The court appearances follow a police investigation into huge pay rises awarded to senior council bosses.

All three are currently suspended from the council on full-pay.

No pleas were entered and all three were released on unconditional bail to appear before Bristol Crown Court on May 13.
