A former supermarket building in the Upper Rhymney Valley is to be demolished.
Caerphilly County Borough Council initially purchased the former Aldi store in Rhymney last year as part of the 21st Century Schools Programme to provide options for the redevelopment of Upper Rhymney Primary School.
However, consideration to the development of a new school cannot be determined until an overall strategy for the Upper Rhymney is agreed and delivered. The building will now be demolished on health and safety grounds to make a financial saving.
After the cost of the demolition, the decision to knock down the former Aldi store will present the council with a saving of around £10,000 in business rates. The council will remain the landowner of the site.
