Dai Havard MP to stand in Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney in 2015 General Election

News | | Published: 16:00, Wednesday May 7th, 2014.

Rhymney’s Labour MP Dai Havard has been re-selected by the party to stand in the 2015 General Election.

Mr Havard was selected as the Parliamentary candidate for the Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney constituency following an internal ballot of local party members.

Mr Havard has represented the constituency since June 2001, succeeding former Labour MP Ted Rowlands. Prior to his election to Parliament, Dai Havard was the Wales Secretary of the trade union MSF – now part of Unite the Union.

Mr Havard said: “I’m honoured that my local Labour Party have put their faith in me once again to continue as Labour’s Parliamentary representative in my hometown seat of Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney.”

Steve Cushen, the Secretary of Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney Labour Party, added: “Dai has been a first-class MP for the area and we in the Labour Party are delighted that he’s been re-selected by the membership as our local candidate.”
