The head of Caerphilly-based Thomas Carroll Group has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

John Moore, chairman of the insurance broker, was granted the honour for services to the financial services sector and charitable services to Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice.

He joined Thomas Carroll as Managing Director in 1981 when the company employed eight people and has steered it to become one of the largest independent insurance broking, health & safety and financial services groups in Wales.

The company currently employs over 130 people across four regional offices in Swansea, Haverfordwest, Hereford and its Caerphilly headquarters.

John Moore said: “My immediate thought is that this is an honour that reflects deservedly on all at the TC Group. We have achieved our business success together, sharing a common ethos that supports, develops and rewards our people, placing our clients at the heart of everything we do.

“In accepting this honour I will do so on behalf of our entire group, and the people, industry and clients whose dedication and support over the years makes me immensely proud.”

Thomas Carroll have supported Ty Hafan since its earliest development phase and raised £80,000 for the hospice in the company’s 40th anniversary year of 2012.

Rhys Thomas, Managing Director of Thomas Carroll Brokers, said: “This latest honour firmly establishes John as one of the most respected figures in the insurance broking profession.

“It reflects his immense and infectious drive and spirit that has inspired the growth and success of our group over the past thirty three years. As a group we are also overjoyed that Ty Hafan also shares in the citation for this tremendous honour.”
