Caerphilly Mayor’s charity launch raises nearly £4,000

News | | Published: 10:00, Thursday July 17th, 2014.

The new Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough has raised £3,900 for charity during his official appeal launch event.

Cllr David Carter hosted the launch at Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Penallta House headquarters on Monday July 7, where guests were told the two charities he would be supporting during his year in office.

The two charities chosen by Cllr Carter, who represents the Bargoed ward, are the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Home-Start Caerphilly Borough.

The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal supports the Legion’s welfare work for the Armed Forces community, and in recent years has raised over £30 million a year to support this important cause.

Home-Start Caerphilly Borough is a voluntary organisation supporting parents of children under the age of five, enabling them to give their children the best possible start in life.

Cllr Carter said: “I am thrilled with the level of support shown at the launch of my charity appeal, and I would like to express my thanks to everyone who attended and helped raise this fantastic sum of money.

“The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Home-Start Caerphilly Borough are two very worthy causes, and this contribution will help support the work these two fantastic charities carry out. There are plenty of fundraising events and activities scheduled throughout my year in office, and I hope that we can build on this fantastic start to my fundraising.”

Last year’s Mayor, Cllr Michael Gray, raised £9,466.66 for LATCH and The Alzheimer’s Society during his year in office.
