A boyfriend beat his lover’s six-week-old baby to death – on her first night out after giving birth.
Michael Pearce, 33, killed little Alfie Sullock while his mother celebrated his birth on a “girly night out”.
He encouraged mum Donna Sullock, 29, to leave him alone with her child – saying “you can trust me”.
But a court heard how he attacked Alfie with bottles of bubble bath, baby power and hit him with a baseball boot.
Pearce tried to make out it was a tragic accident – calling paramedics who found Alfie “blue, cold and totally lifeless”.
But he was facing jail today, July 29, being found guilty of Alfie’s manslaughter.
Prosecutor Michael Mather-Lees said: “Alfie was repeatedly beaten with objects and sustained gratuitous injuries.
“This was not a one-off moment of exasperation which can tragically happen with a screaming child.”
Holiday rep Donna had discovered she was pregnant with Alfie after a whirlwind romance in Crete.
She returned home to Cardiff when she was nine weeks pregnant and met mechanic Pearce.
Pearce offered to baby sit on the night of Friday, August 16, at his home in Nelson.
A post mortem examination showed Alfie died of blunt trauma injury and extensive bleeding into the brain.
Pearce said he couldn’t explain how the tot had suffered his injuries.
He was cleared of murder following trial but found guilty of manslaughter.
He will be sentenced tomorrow, July 30.
