A councillor has been told there are no plans to permanently close the GP surgery in the village of Trinant.
The medical centre was closed last month with patients told to travel three miles to a joint practice in Abertillery.
Cllr Keith Lloyd, who represents the Crumlin ward for Plaid Cymru, wrote to Aneurin Bevan University Health Board over the future of the medical centre.
Cllr Lloyd first raised the concerns of constituents last year.
He said: “I’ve been told by the health board that the practice at Trinant has had staffing difficulties, partly due to a shortage of GPs. As a result, a decision was made not to re-open the branch surgery at present but maintain services in Abertillery.
“The practice has confirmed they are offering home visits to patients who are unable to attend the practice in Abertillery.
“There has also been an issue for the practice where some patients have apparently been verbally abusive to the staff working in the Trinant surgery, making them feel vulnerable.
“But the health board told me it is working with the practice to ensure the surgery is able to operate safely for patients and staff.
“The health board has also said it has not received a formal application from the practice to close the branch surgery.”
