Man arrested after Senghenydd kebab shop raided by immigration officers

News | | Published: 09:00, Tuesday August 12th, 2014.

An illegal worker from Bangladesh was arrested by Home Office Immigration Enforcement officers after a kebab shop was raided in Senghenydd.

Acting on on a tip-off, officers went to King Kebab and Pizza on Commercial Street at around 6.30pm on 1 August.

Checks revealed that a 44-year-old Bangladeshi man working there had entered the UK illegally.

He was taken to Ystrad Mynach Police Station for further questioning and later released on immigration bail. He must now report regularly to a local police station while the Home Office makes arrangements to remove him from the UK.

The business now faces a potential penalty of up to £20,000 for employing an illegal worker.

Richard Johnson, from Home Office Immigration Enforcement, said: “We are working hard to track down people breaking the UK’s immigration laws.

“Illegal working encourages illegal immigration and we are determined to tackle it.

“Operations like this are carried out regularly across Wales and information from the public can be a huge help in our work.”
