Llancaiach Fawr Manor, near Nelson, has won a top educational award.

The Manor is once again the proud holder of the Sandford Award for Excellence in Heritage Education. The UK-wide award for museums and heritage sites is independently judged by the Heritage Education Trust on a five-yearly review.

The education service at the Manor, which is provided to schools, colleges, universities and leisure learners of all ages and abilities across Wales and the west of England, was awarded the highest rating possible.

The work of the Learning and Interpretation team, led by Louise Griffith, was judged to make a significant contribution to the understanding of local and national history.

Diane Walker, General Manager of Llancaiach Fawr, said: “We are delighted to receive the prestigious Sandford Award once more- it recognises the wide-ranging additional learning activities we have developed over the last few years and the constant improvement in what we provide for all learners.”

She added: “To get this award is a fabulous boost for all the staff.”
