A Caerphilly-based company has helped refurbish the Scarlets’ gym in a bid to help them prosper on the European rugby stage.
Castle Coatings and strength and conditioning equipment specialist Absolute Performance from Cardiff, have teamed up to carry out a major refurbishment of the performance gym at Parc y Scarlets. The new training facility will be used by the first team and academy squad.
Castle Coatings shotblasted and powder-coated some of the existing equipment in team colours, making the distinctive Scarlets colouring and branding a dominant and motivating feature throughout the facility.
New training equipment also includes a heavy-duty leg press, a hack squat machine to allow the players to replicate game-related movements, and a bespoke platform for Wattbike testing and general cardio work. The centrepiece of the facility is a customised 25m track, using specialist AP Evolution turf to enable the squad to use conditioning sleds indoors, and perform specialist sprints and drills.
Julian Lewis, director at Castle Coatings, said: “We are really pleased to play a part in creating this training gym. Our company ethos is to work with local companies to combine local talent and our partnership with Absolute Performance is working really well.”
Ian Gibbons, Forwards Conditioner at Scarlets Rugby, said: “The newly refurbished performance gym created by Castle Coatings and Absolute Performance is a first-class facility. With the Scarlets branding and colours across the gym, we have a truly motivational space in which to train.”
