Pupils from Ystrad Mynach Primary School have taken part in a community clean-up at their local park.

More than 50 Year 4 pupils armed with litter pickers took to Ystrad Mynach Park on Wednesday September 24.

Collecting everything from empty cans and bottles to cigarette butts and food waste, the pupils filled over 20 bags of rubbish between them.

Members of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Tidy Towns and Environmental Health teams were on hand to flag up the issue of dog fouling, placing large signs in the ground to highlight where an irresponsible dog owner had failed to clean up after their pet.

Pupils also had the chance to find out how to correctly recycle their rubbish at the neighbouring Centre for Sporting Excellence.

Cllr David Poole Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said: “I’m pleased that pupils and staff have taken part in this community clean-up, they have shown genuine commitment and pride in helping to make their town a better place live, work, learn and enjoy, which shows just how proud they are of their local park and that wish for it to stay safe and clean.

“It sends the clear message that littering, dog fouling and fly-tipping are all unacceptable, and that a small number of people are not going to ruin other people’s enjoyment of our wonderful parks and green spaces.

“I would like to thank and congratulate everybody involved for their brilliant efforts in making Caerphilly a greener place to live.”
