Work has been completed on 25 new car parking spaces at Rhymney Railway Station.
The Park and Ride scheme now has a total of 50 spaces for commuters.
Rhymney Park and Ride is the last of four park and ride projects to be completed as part of a European Union funded programme.
Transport Minister, Edwina Hart said: “I am very pleased to see work completed on this park and ride scheme, which will help reduce reliance on the car for many people accessing jobs and services.
“With the help of European funds, these park and ride schemes will help deliver our aims of reducing road congestion and creating a sustainable, integrated transport system.”
Bethan Jelfs, Head of Stations for Arriva Trains Wales said: “This is a really beneficial development for the local community and will hopefully encourage more people to use the regular train services into Cardiff and the surrounding areas for both commuting and leisure trips alike.”
Cllr Tom Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways, Transportation and Engineering, said: “I am pleased that this much needed project has been completed. Park and ride spaces provide vital facilities which encourage motorists to take advantage of public transport for all or part of their main journey.”
He added: “A single occupant travelling by car creates 3.5 times more carbon emissions than travelling the same distance by rail, this results in reduced car travel on the network and helps reduce carbon emissions whilst improving the efficiency of the transport system, these priorities are certainly high on the agenda for Caerphilly County Borough Council.”
