A Caerphilly Council worker is launching a video diary of his attempts to kick his smoking habit as part of the annual Stoptober drive.

Student Environmental Health Officer Simon Wedge has pledged to stop smoking for Stoptober to fulfil a promise to his son, as well as to improve his own general health.

Simon said: “I’m already seeing the benefits of week one of Stoptober – I can breathe more easily and I don’t smell of smoke anymore.

“During my first week of Stoptober I saved around £14, which over the course of a year would easily be well over £500, which would be more than enough for a nice holiday.”

Stoptober is the 28-day national stop smoking challenge and is running in Wales for the first time this year.

Research has shown that people who manage to stop smoking for 28 days are five times more likely to stop for good.

You can watch Simon’s story on the CaerphillyCBCTV Youtube channel and visit www.wales.nhs.uk/stoptober to take part.
