New Tredegar nurses face NMC hearing

News | | Published: 10:10, Monday October 20th, 2014.

A misconduct hearing into the practice of six nurses at a New Tredegar care home is underway.

Nurses Rachel Tanta, Rachel Pritchard, Tembakazi Moyana, Beverley Mock, Daphne Richards and Susan Greening are accused of misconduct and face allegations over the treatment of nine residents at Brithdir Nursing Home between 2004 and 2006.

The six are part way through a Nursing and Midwifery Council professional hearing.

One of the allegations against the nurses include a resident whose care was so bad, that it led to an advanced pressure sore.

The hearing has been told the resident died in June 2005 after she developed sepsis from the sore.
Brithdir was one of six homes investigated by the £11.6 million Gwent Police Operation Jasmine and was owned by businessman Dr Prana Das.

Dr Das faced charges relating to neglect and fraud at two care homes – Brithdir Care Home in New Tredegar and The Beeches in Blaenavon. A violent burglary at his home in 2012 left him unable to stand trial.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council hearing against the six nurses is scheduled to last until the end of this month.
