Vandals are being targeted after deliberate damage has been repeatedly caused to a Llanbradach footpath.
Oil has been poured on trees, trees have been cut down to block the path and a new style has been destroyed on the footpath, that runs behind houses on Coed-y-Pia, over the last three months.
Other incidents include littering, with broken glass smashed on walls and the path, while upturned pins have also been left.
Now Llanbradach police officers and Caerphilly County Borough Council are joining forces to deter the vandals.
Community Support Officer, Bev Coggan said: “Not only is this danger to users of the path, it is a danger to animals and is affecting the wildlife in the area.
Anyone caught or identified could be prosecuted for offences including leaving litter or failing to remove dog faece. Both these offences carry fixed penalties of £75.
“Caerphilly Council have been spending time clearing the area, only for the footpath to be repeatedly targeted. We are working with Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Community Safety Wardens and local councillors to try tackle the issue.”
Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, Cllr David Poole, said: “These incidents are having a detrimental impact not only upon local residents and the other users of the footpath, but on the local environment too and we are determined to tackle these issues through working alongside our partners.”
