Two lambs killed in large barn fire in Llanbradach

Two lambs were killed in a large barn fire in Llanbradach last night, Friday March 13.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it was called at 10.18pm to the fire at a farm on Pandy Lane. As crews from Caerphilly were racing to the scene, there was concern for the farmer who was trying to save his sheep from the burning barn.

Crews from Caerphilly initially responded, but more firefighters were needed as an estimated 20 tonnes of hay was ablaze.

At 10.41pm a crew from Aberbargoed were called with with a water bowser and at 10.52pm, a further two fire engines were called from Whitchurch and Aberbargoed. In total fire engines were called.

Most of the livestock in the barn was saved, but two lambs perished.

After three and half hours, the fire was extinguished at 1.48am. The cause of the blaze is not yet known, although fire investigators have attended the scene.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews remain at the scene helping the farmer remove hay from the barn and that smoke may be visible for some hours in the area.

At 22.52 crews requested a further 2 fire engines they responded from Whitchurch and Aberbargoed. 5 fire engines in total

At 23.20 crews reported all livestock had been evacuated from the barn which was still well alight

At 01.48 after 3.5hrs firefighting crews reported the fire extinguished 20tonnes of hay+Straw severely damaged and sadly 2 lambs lost
