Senior councillors have approved plans for a controversial park and ride at Ystrad Mynach railway station.

A planning application will be submitted for the scheme, including proposals to build an access road through Ystrad Mynach Primary School field.

In plans approved by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet on May 20, council officers refute that the road would mean the loss of the field, saying there will still be space for a football or rugby pitch.

But parents and governors object to the plan, saying it would take green space away from their children and increased traffic would cause congestion.

A spokesperson for Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “Cabinet agreed to approve the use of the land as a possible park and ride facility, but the proposal is still subject to planning approval and detailed consultation with the community before any development takes place.”
