Caerphilly Youth Forum learn about domestic abuse at police HQ

News | | Published: 13:00, Friday August 28th, 2015.

Members of Caerphilly Youth Forum visited Cwmbran police headquarters to learn about how the police deal with situations of domestic violence.

The visit was arranged by Maria Chapman, Secretary to the Police and Crime Commissioner, in order to further educate the youth forum on their priority issue for this year: “Raising awareness about domestic abuse – not enough services for different age groups affected.”

Members of the youth forum toured the 101 and 999 call centres.

PC Mike Gray showed them the processes that staff go through when they receive calls and specifically how they deal with domestic abuse situations.

The visit also included a presentation by the Public Protection Unit on what procedures are in place to support victims of domestic abuse and violence.

The forum then received a presentation on victim risk assessment and the young people were able to ask a range of questions on what they had learned during their visit.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning said: “Thank you to Gwent Police for inviting Caerphilly Youth Forum to their headquarters.

“I am delighted that the young people who attended were able to further their understanding of domestic abuse situations during the visit.”
