Welsh rugby legends Gareth Thomas and Martyn Williams dusted off their jerseys to compete against a team of amateurs from a Caerphilly company.

The two former internationals, who have 100 caps each, took part in a rugby sevens game recently alongside players from Caerphilly-based healthcare firm Direct Healthcare Services (DHS).

Gareth Thomas, also known as Alfie, played alongside his ex-Wales teammate Martyn against a team of amateur players from the firm.

Martyn Williams said: “It was great to get back on the pitch, and the team at DHS are a brilliant bunch. They made me and Alfie feel really welcome and we had a really fun game despite the rain.”

Stuart McAllister, Director of Sales at DHS, said: “It was brilliant to have Alfie and Martyn play alongside our staff team. They really got involved and were supporting everyone on the pitch, but I have to admit, our guys definitely gave them a run for their money.”

More than 100 people attended the event, which took place at Senghenydd Rugby Club in Caerphilly and included a hog roast and live band.

DHS also took the opportunity to announce local children’s hospice charity, T? Hafan, as its charity of the year for 2016, to which it donated £500 at the event.
