New Co-op store to open in Machen

News | | Published: 15:00, Thursday March 24th, 2016.

Co-operate Food is to open a new store in Machen, as part of a £10 million investment in Wales.

The new store is to open on the site of the former car park of the Ffrwm Ishta Inn, on Commercial Road.

Matthew Speight, Managing Director for the Co-op in Wales, said: “The Co-op has a proud heritage stretching back over 150 years and its investment to transform and grow its convenience business is building momentum for the future.”

The Ffrwm Ishta closed in 2012 with the building converted into a house.

The Ffwrwm Ishta was closed by the owners Enterprise Inns as nobody could be found to take over the pub / restaurant as a going concern, although Machen community group CALON attempted to rally locals and organise a community buy out the locals were not interested so the pub was closed and quickly fell into ruin until a brave developer took on the derelict building and has built a rather nice large luxury home on the site. I dare say that the developer has made himself a nice few quid out of the deal that involves a new Co-op store and well done to him, Wales could do with more invididuals with drive and determination who get up and do something rather than whine, complain and object about anybody who tries to do anything.
