The latest trend in landscaping is proving popular in Caerphilly and the Valleys.

The Arms Park led the way last year by using artificial grass on its famous pitch and now households all over South Wales are following suit.

Last year more than 50 million square metres of artificial grass were sold across Europe and with the industry expanding at more than 15% per year this looks like a trend that will continue.

Local retailer Carpet Castle in Caerphilly has reported massive interest, especially from Caerphilly and the Rhymney Valley.

Director Andrew Graham said: “We’ve been selling artificial grass in the shop for a few years now, but demand this year has just been unbelievable. I think Welsh homeowners are realising how much time they can save by not mowing their lawns. We’re finding that once we’ve done one job in a particular area or community, many of the neighbours come in to the shop asking for the same grass.”

The manufacturing process of artificial grass has come a long way in recent years and the modern product looks so realistic that it can be hard to tell the difference between it and real grass.

The best qualities come with a nine-year UV fade guarantee so should look lush and green for many years. It has proved particularly popular with families since the absence of mud means the surface is much more usable year-round than traditional turf. Of course it offers a welcome relief for Hay Fever sufferers as well.
