A community centre has been officially reopened to provide services to local residents.

Graig-y-Rhacca Resource Centre was officially reopened by Alun Davies, Cabinet Secretary for Local Government and Public Services, earlier this month.

The facility is run by Graig-y-Rhacca Community Association, with support from Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Regular activities currently being delivered from the Resource Centre include sessions from Caerphilly Parent Network, a music initiative being delivered by Caerphilly based social enterprise Recrock, along with employment support from the council’s Communities 4 Work and the Communities 4 Work Plus teams.

Additional activities and support services that could be delivered from Graig-y-Rhacca Resource Centre are being identified through working with the local community.

Cabinet Secretary for Local Government and Public Services Alun Davies AM said: “I was delighted to meet staff, volunteers and other partners who have come together and worked so hard to reopen Graig-y-Rhacca Resource Centre.

“The range of activities on offer will provide people of all ages a chance to socialise and build new and lasting friendships and it is a testament to the strength of the community here that the Centre has continued to develop since Communities First ended here.”

Cllr Sean Morgan, the council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Regeneration, added: “Partnership working between the council’s Community Regeneration Team and Graig-y-Rhacca Community Association has been instrumental to the reopening of the Resource Centre.

“We hope to continue building upon this partnership in order to develop the facility into a vital resource for local residents.”

Rhianedd Otter, Chair of Graig-y-Rhacca Community Association, said: “Reopening the centre means a new beginning for us. We are committed to reclaim this project, ensuring that it is inclusive and welcoming to all. It will be delivered by the community, for the community.”

• Graig-y-Rhacca Resource Centre can be found at 59-71 Grays Gardens, Caerphilly CF83 8TQ.
