Bargoed boxer Lauren Price has been named Best Female Boxer at an annual awards ceremony in Sheffield.

Price, 24, was voted for by boxing coaches across the UK to claim the award.

The award follows a year which has seen Price win a medal in every major tournament that she has entered – including a bronze medal at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in November, where she lost on points to world number one Nouchka Fontijn in the middleweight semi-finals in New Dehli.

The awards are run by GB Boxing, which is responsible for training boxers to compete for Great Britain at the Olympic games.

She was presented with her award by GB Boxing’s Performance Director, Rob McCracken and Joshua Buatsi, who won a bronze medal for Team GB at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Mr McCracken said: “It is a pleasure to give the award to Lauren after an extraordinary year in which she has announced herself on the world stage.

“She has performed superbly throughout the last 12 months and, in my opinion, could have come away with more from the World Championships, where I felt she was unlucky not to get the decision in her semi-final against a hugely experienced opponent.”
