Bedwas prepare for final game of the season with survival hopes in balance

Bedwas centre Adam Williams makes a break in the reverse fixture against Swansea

Bedwas are preparing for their final game of the season on Saturday, May 4 against Swansea, knowing a defeat would see them relegated to the Welsh Championship.

The game will go ahead as planned, despite a burst pipe flooding the pitch at the Bridgefield earlier in the week.

Bedwas were beaten 30-10 by Swansea in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

The hosts are competing with Llanelli and Bridgend to retain their place in the Principality Premiership.

Bedwas, who have 57 points on the table, currently sit in the relegation zone in 13th place, with 12th placed Llanelli, who have 58 points, currently occupying the relegation play-off spot.

Llanelli will welcome crisis-club Neath to Parc-y-Scarlets, with the Welsh All Blacks rock bottom of the table and already-relegated after just one win all season.

Bridgend, who have a game in hand over their rivals, are currently out of the relegation zone in 11th place with 60 points after recent wins over already-relegated Bargoed and Cross Keys.

The Ravens face away trips to Aberavon, who recently lost to Bedwas, and Pontypridd.

If Bridgend win just one of these games, it will mean Bedwas will have to settle for a place in the relegation play-off against Championship winners Pontypool if they beat Swansea and Llanelli lose to Neath.

If Bedwas draw to Swansea, they would need Llanelli to lose their game without a bonus point in order to secure a play-off berth.

A bonus-point draw, coupled with non-bonus-point defeats for Llanelli and Bridgend, would still not be enough for Bedwas to secure their survival and Principality Premiership status for next season.

Meanwhile, Bargoed play Pontypridd, while Cross Keys host North Wales side RGC 1404 this weekend (Saturday, May 4).
