Three gymnasts from a Croespenmaen-based gymnastics academy have represented Wales at the National Grades Finals in Stoke-on-Trent.

Madison Harford, 12, Emilie Allen, 11 and Elise Taylor, ten, all took part in the competition, which was held on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26.

Competitors from across the United Kingdom take part in the competition.

Madison’s team finished second to claim a silver medal, with Elise’s team finishing fourth.

Meanwhile, Emilie’s team finished sixth.

Emilie also finished first in the bar competition at the event.

The competition featured 48 gymnasts aged between ten and 15-years-old.

The 48 gymnasts were split into 12 teams.

Melissa Anderson, head coach of Valleys Gymnastics Academy, said: “I felt really proud to see them go out in Welsh colours and represent their country so beautifully.

“They did themselves proud and they did Wales proud.

“They loved every minute of it, had fun and enjoyed themselves. “They love representing Wales and they had a great time.”

Ms Anderson added: “It was a lovely achievement for the girls.

The results of the competition mean that for the first time ever, Wales has won the Rosebowl trophy.

The Rosebowl trophy has been won by Wales for the first time

Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the nine regions of England compete for the trophy each year, with the winner decided by the combined results from a number of competitions in the gymnastics calendar.

The girls will now turn their attentions to the Welsh competition, which will be held in the autumn.
