Mayor Julian Simmonds opens the new dog cafe on St Fagans Street, Caerphilly

A new dog cafe has opened in Caerphilly town centre.

Butcher and Ball Dog Cafe serves a variety of locally sourced home cooked food, including organic meat from a local farm, fruit and vegetables from Caerphilly greengrocers S Jones, and specially-made bone shaped bread rolls from Glanmors.

The cafe is split into separate spaces for large, medium and small dogs, with nervous dogs able to spend their time in a sensory room.

The sensory room is also available for use by charities.

However, the cafe is not just for customers with dogs – there are four ‘house’ dogs who will be happy to be petted and made a fuss of.

The cafe will also offer dog grooming sessions on site.

Charmain Ball, owner of Butcher and Ball, said: “Our motto is ‘time with your best friend while making new ones’; our aim is to create a place where people can come and relax with their dogs, eat home-made food and enjoy each other’s company.

“We’re also keen to use the café to support the local community, for example by providing jobs and volunteering opportunities for disabled people to help them get into full time work and space for small home based business to set up their product to sell.”

The cafe was officially opened by Caerphilly County Borough mayor, Cllr Julian Simmonds, on Saturday, July 27.

Cllr Simmonds said: “It was an honour to be invited to officially open Butcher and Ball. Evidence has shown that interaction with pets can be incredibly therapeutic and it’s pleasing to hear that Butcher and Ball will be working with local charities who deal with issues such as poor mental health and loneliness to help the people they support.

“On behalf of Caerphilly County Borough Council I’d like to welcome such a unique establishment to the county borough and look forward to seeing it develop.”

The cafe is on St Fagan’s Street and is open from 10am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday, with lunch available to take away on Sundays from 11am to 4pm.
