Homelessness and domestic abuse charity Llamau has opened its new centre on Wernddu Court, near Caerphilly Business Park.
It is hoped the new, bigger site will allow the charity to offer new and improved services.
The new Safer Caerphilly Centre will provide services for adults and children affected by abuse and trauma, including a range of advice, guidance, legal support and therapy.
The new centre is open from 9am to 5pm between Monday and Thursday, and 9am to 4.30pm on Fridays.
Llamau chief executive, Frances Beecher, said: “We had been looking for this space for the last 18 months, trying to find a building that would accommodate enough agencies and enough organisations, and would also be safe enough for people to come in and to feel secure.
“We also wanted to ensure the building was accessible and would not be obvious what people are coming in for.”
She added: “We promised that we would continue to deliver a service and expand and ensure that Caerphilly was at the forefront of trying to eradicate domestic abuse and we’ve paid back this loyalty and this support by opening such an amazing centre.”
Sam Lewis, Head of Women’s Services said : “Any woman or man who are victims of domestic abuse in Caerphilly County Borough can drop in and use our service and advice at any point.”
Welsh Government deputy minister Jane Hutt AM officially opened the site and said: “The Welsh Government is absolutely dedicated to tackling violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence and the £350,000 of funding we’ve provided for Llamau’s new multi-agency centre is a massive step forward in protecting those most at risk right across Caerphilly.”
Cllr Carl Cuss, cabinet member for social care and wellbeing, said: “I’d like to thank Llamau for inviting me to the launch event of their new multi-agency centre and for choosing Caerphilly as the base for this vital resource.
“Thanks to funding from Welsh Government, Llamau’s new base will provide a range of support services for people in Caerphilly County Borough, such as parenting programmes, safety planning and legal advice.
“Caerphilly County Borough Council works closely with Llamau in tackling domestic abuse and youth homelessness; we look forward to continuing to build upon this relationship to provide specialist support to those in need.”
Speaking at the event, Cllr Colin Mann said: “I’ve got experience of the excellent work Llamau has done over a number of years. I’m always happy to support any of their initiatives and that’s why I am here today – to witness more progress in their work.”
