Caerphilly Ladies Choir, which celebrated its 54th anniversary last week, is looking for new members.

The choir currently has 45 members, who meet every Tuesday in term time at 7.15pm at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni’s Y Gwyndy campus, which is on Pontygwindy Road, Caerphilly.

Set up in 1966 under the name ‘The Margaret Roach Singers’, the choir was renamed Caerphilly Ladies Choir in 1996 as part of their 30th anniversary celebrations.

Ellie Baker is the Musical Director and her mother in law, Beverly Baker, is the choir accompanist.

Every May, the choir teams up with another local choir to perform a charity concert.

Choir member Marjorie Gray said: “We have a busy season ahead, including three local concerts, two smaller concerts in care homes and the wedding of one of our choristers.

“In May I will have been a member of the choir for 54 years! It is such a great pastime.”
